noise from front end on 2002 Jeep Wrangler

When turning at a reduced speed there is a popping/grinding noise that is coming from the area of the front right side/tire, but when driving in a straight line does not happen. What could this possibly be and what do you estimate to fix?

probably a bad steering joint (basically a u-joint) that has most likely gone bad. To verify, you can crank the wheel all the way to one side, jack up the offending front corner, and rotate the wheel forward and back while watching this u-joint in the steering knuckle. If there is any play in this joint whatsoever, this is the cause of your noise.
