I have a howling noise coming from my air cleaner, close to the air mass flow sensor, especially when its gets hot or I drive a lot, there also seems to be poor performance especially up a hill, and even a chance of dying out when driving, their are no codes showing in the dash.

I am surprised there are no codes stored. I would check that the air filter housing is sealed correctly and then look for vacuum leaks between the air filter housing, and intake manifold. Many Fords are slow to set a misfire code but you say the engine is almost to the point where it stalls sometimes. I think plugging in a good scan tool to the 16 pin diagnostic socket under the dash should show useful diagnostic information in the live data mode. A repair shop usually have a machine that generates non flammable smoke, a hose is attached to the intake manifold with the engine of and leaks are then looked for.
