I have a 1996 chevy s10 2.2l. I blew a rod and had a guy put a 1995 2.2l motor in it. A 1995 is a obd1 ahd a 1996 is a 0bd11. All the sensors match up execpt the crank shaft position senser. I have no spark what do I need to do to get spark. How can I make this sensor work. A 1995 c.s. sensor is a 2 prong and a 1996 is a 3 prong plug. I spent $900 getting this motor put in and now it wont start I need an easy solution to this problem without taking this motor out and loosing out the money. Dont ever trust a guy your buy "knows" to fix your car! Will the 1996 sensor work if I put it in is this sensor even the problem or is there a bigger problem I am missing?

No I did not change the sensor THe guy who I paid to fix it saposably did but I am really not sure he knows what he is doing anymore. He told me when the sensor didnt match up that " oh if anything leave the sensor out your check engine light will just stay on!" if I am not mistaken the sensors contact points send a signal to the computer to get spark.so you cant leave it out. if the 96 sensor will fit will it work. or is this a different problem that I am over looking. ( i got the truck back and am trying to fix it myself since I seem to know more than the guy I paid.)I believe the sensors arein the same location. on the side of the block Passenger side. above the oil pan.

is this the one that is under the module/? makes sense. you must have it because that is what sends the signal the motor is turning and the sensor also is responsible for injector trigger.

cant say for sure without seeing it in person. you need to change all from old motor to new. i mean the module with the crank sensor, coils and all sensors.

Both sensors run off a 7x (6+1) signal the 3 wire is a squar wave and 2 wire is a ac signal (sine wave) the 2 wire is the cheaper of the two. From the information I have looks like it should work.
