It is most likely not the gear. It is more likely it is the synchro mesh ring and collar. Is 1st gear hard to shift into? If you had wearing clutch hydraulics, it was probably hard to shift into first gear, yes? Well, that can wear out the syncro in no time, so that is why it failed.
I used to rebuild these Manual Transmissions in Ford Dealerships, ( they are a Mazda 5 speed gear box) and I had to remove a lot of bearings to disassemble the shafts. I would try to get good used tranny from ATARCO, that has about 30k on it, less money and way less time, a set of new bearings and a 1-2 syncro is several hundred like $500-600, not to mention the $1000 of special bearing knives and pullers that you will plus a $4000 20 ton press.

i got this truck from my cousin and he said he wasnt having any problems till the clutch "went out" he thought the clutch broke but there was no fluid in the master cylinder but we still replaced it all. and when we got the truck it was stuck in gear but when we took out the transmission it broke free really easy. when the truck isnt started it will go into every gear you want but once you start it first wont go in and reverse is a little tuff but it wors.
