RepairPal Expert Overview:

Airbags use a chemical reaction contained in an inflator module to create the pressure necessary to inflate the bags when deployment is required. These vehicles are being recalled because the front passenger airbag inflator may produce excessive internal pressure when deployed. As a result, the inflator module could rupture, causing metal fragments to strike vehicle occupants. Dealers will inspect and replace any defective passenger front airbag inflator modules found.

Nissan has recalled 2009-2010 Altima and Maxima models because the upper front strut insulators may have been manufactured out of specification, which may cause the strut insulator to crack. If this happens, the strut rod may come out of its mounting position, which could affect vehicle stability and lead to a crash. Dealers will replace both left and right side front strut insulators free of charge.

Nissan has recalled 2007 Maxima models equipped with "intelligent key." During an inspection at the assembly plant, it was found that the steering wheel was locked with the ignition knob in the "Off" position, but the vehicle was not in "Park." If this happens, the steering wheel may lock when turned to the right. Dealers will inspect and replace the steering wheel lock assembly free of charge.

The lower child seat anchors in the rear seat do not meet the location requirement as stated by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard, and may cause difficulty securing some child seats. If a child seat is not secured, there is an increased risk of injury in a crash. Dealers will replace the lower seat anchor brackets with modified ones. The recall began on October 17, 2005.

Nissan has recalled 2006 Maxima and Altima models because the rear subframe may have been manufactured incorrectly, which could result in a crack in the bracket that holds part of the rear suspension. If the bracket cracks, the stability of the vehicle may be affected, which could lead to a loss of control and a possible crash. Dealers will inspect the rear subframe to determine if it was manufactured incorrectly and replace it, if necessary.

Nissan has recalled 2004-2006 Maxima models equipped with the driver preferred package because the wire harness from the driver's seat power lumbar support switch may be routed incorrectly, which can cause it to pinch under the driver's seat. A pinched harness, in combination with driving vibration, may result in a short circuit in the harness that could lead to a fire in the seat. Dealers will replace the wire harness and route it correctly.

Nissan has recalled 2004 Maxima models equipped with skyview roofs because the glass for the roof may not have been quenched properly after the forming process, resulting in temper imbalance. This may create excessive internal stress in the glass, which can cause the glass to shatter and possibly injure someone. Dealers will inspect and replace the glass in the skyview roof.

For Models: Infiniti G35, Infiniti I35, Infiniti M45, Infiniti Q45, Nissan 350Z, Nissan Altima, Nissan Maxima, Nissan Murano, Nissan Sentra

RepairPal Expert Overview:

The circuit board for the crank position sensor and cam position sensor may have improper solder joints. This could cause the Service Engine Soon lamp to come on, the engine may not start, you could experience reduced power, or the engine may stall without warning, which could result in a crash. Dealers will replace the the crank position sensor, cam position sensors, and in some cases, the variable timing control sensors. The recall began on December 22, 2003. The Nissan recall number is R2022 and the Infiniti recall number is R3021.

Summary: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, ONE OF THE DIODES USED IN THE ALTERNATOR MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED WHEN BUILT. THIS CAN EVENTUALLY RESULT IN FAILURE OF THE DIODE AND AN ELECTRICAL SHORT WHICH COULD MELT THE PLASTIC HOUSING.
