Steering Column and Air Bag Fasteners May Be Loose
Steering column and passenger air bag fasteners may not have been tightened correctly. The steering column may become loose, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, the passenger air bag may not deploy as designed.
We at RepairPal have designated this as a high priority recall. Steering ability could be lost without warning and/or the passenger air bag may not deploy correctly. Please contact your Nissan dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you as to what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
The fasteners securing the passenger air bag and the steering shaft positioning bracket may not have been tightened correctly. The passenger side air bag may not deploy as designed. Also, the steering column may become loose, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the fasteners in question, replace any that are missing, and properly torque all affected fasteners to the proper specification. This recall is expected to begin by April 19, 2010.

STEERING:GEAR BOX:SHAFT SECTOR
NISSAN HAS NOTIFIED NHTSA OF A DEFECT IN CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010 FRONTIER, PATHFINDER, AND XTERRA VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM FEBRUARY 22, 2010 TO MARCH 13, 2010. ON SOME OF THE POTENTIALLY AFFECTED VEHICLES, THE FASTENERS SECURING THE PASSENGER FRONT AIR BAG MODULE, AND ALSO THE FASTENERS SECURING THE STEERING SHAFT POSITIONING BRACKET MAY NOT HAVE BEEN TIGHTENED TO THE PROPER TORQUE SPECIFICATION.
IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE PASSENGER FRONT AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT TRAJECTORY MIGHT BE AFFECTED. THE FASTENERS COULD POSSIBLY COME OUT OF THE STEERING COLUMN POSITIONING BRACKET INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE PASSENGER FRONT AIR BAG FASTENERS AND ANY MISSING FASTENERS WILL BE REPLACED AND ALL LOOSE FASTENERS WILL BE RETIGHTENED TO THE PROPER TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS FREE OF CHARGE.
