A shop you can trust
I was really impressed with the service I recently received from Newman's Automotive. My Honda was ready on time and the staff was friendly and helpful. In addition, the staff were very knowledgeable about their products and services. Specifically, I was given a written description of recommendations. It was explained to me in way that could easily be understood and better yet there was no pressure. My overall feeling about the experience is they actually care about the maintenance and the quality of work they provided on my Honda Accord. I absolutely will return to Newman's for service again.
My '99 Villager van had been cutting out intermittently. Finally on a Sunday night it stalled out completely and couldn't be restarted, stranding me. I had it towed home that night, then to Newman's the next morning on recommendation of the tow driver. They called later and told me the starter was bad and the engine was completely locked up, supposedly due to a bad motor mount that caused the oil to leak out of the engine. They said I needed a new engine and a new starter.
I was not happy with that, so I had it towed to another shop the next day, that replaced the starter and had the engine running the day after that. It was not locked up. The issue turned out to be a bad distributor that had been replaced less than a year before and was still under warranty. A replacement was obtained, installed, and the van is now running with no recurrence of the problem. Motor mount is still not repaired and there is plenty of oil in the engine.
I could have been out of pocket thousands for that bad diagnosis had I not sought a second opinion. After two emails, I did finally receive a credit for the diagnostic fee, though no apology, and I am still out of pocket for the extra tow, plus additional days of loss of use of the vehicle.
