I cant tell you anything about the dead battery thing but the screeching noise is the bendix on the starter. When you start it the gear pops out on to the flywheel and turns the motor to start it. Now after it starts the bendix dosnt come back right after the car starts so it makes a loud noise. So what i did is I got some all purpose grease and took my starter loose and put a LITTLE BIT on the gear and it stops for a while but you will need to keep doing it ever so often.( just when it starts doing it again).
