WHEN REPLACING THE VALVE COVER GASKET, DOES THE CAM MOTOR COME OUT WITH THE V-COVER? IF IT HAS TO BE REMOVED, IS IT IN A NEUTRAL POSITION? SPECIAL TOOL?

You need to remove the servodrive (cam actuator) first, than the valve cover.
You don't need a diagnostic computer to put the drive into service mode on this engine, but there is a certain way to remove it. I suggest to get a good manual before you start to do this job, read and learn every step first.
There is another important thing, this is a MAGNESIUM engine block, all the aluminum bolt that you remove has to be discarded and new MUST be used. The torque and angle on the bolts are EXTREMELY critical, so follow the instruction step-by-step. You will need a torque and an angle wrench beside the regular tools.
You can not use steel bolts.
