what is the problem when u start your car after it has been sitting for eight hours and white smoke comes out from the muffler for about five seconds and stops.

    Two possible causes, one could be coolant getting into the combustion chambers, example, leaking head gasket,intake gasket. Usually engine will misfire also for a few seconds up to a few minutes until the coolant burns out of the affected cylinder(s). Another possible cause thats looks similar is light blue oil smoke which is oil burning in the cylinder(s). Possible causes could be worn valve stem seals, stopped up cylinder head due to a dirty engine

    Valve guide and valve guide seal wear is common on higher mileage LS 400 engines but the engine are good for 350,000 miles if the engine oil is changed often.
