2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 HD Q&A

2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 HD Question: my transmission needs to be rebuilt

a friend was driving and accidentally shifted the gear into reverse while in drive. the truck still gets all forward gears good but no reverse. -
Answer 1
certain vehicles have a manual reverse, where its not even apart of the actual transmission, so that depends (if you want to get it fixed. I did the same exact thing in my old Saturn, I never got it fixed (usually don't need to if you don't want to), just be very careful about parking locations - don't park somewhere that you'll need to go reverse). -
Answer 2
Don't listen to that guy, there isn't a transmission that was built in the last 30 years with the reverse assembly built separate from the rest of the unit. Most likely, the teeth were stripped off of the low/reverse friction pack and your going to need some form of rebuild. The first step is to find out if the trans. binds in reverse or not, if you bring the truck by one of my shops we will check it out for free and let you know what need to be done. -

First, you don't have to be so informal, "that guy". Also I'm just saying what my mechanics told me, so tell them that my 2001 doesn't have a separate reverse. They told me it did, that's all I know. Just work on the people skills. -
