My temperature gauge went to hot and steam came from under hood. Coolant dumped. on 2007 BMW X3

It was obvious that a hose or something had burst. I had it towed to a local dealership that I had never used. They called me later and said that the expansion chamber had burst and they had replaced it. That seems to be too simple a solution for a vehicle like this to suddenly get that hot. Are their other things that could have also malfunction to cause this. I am on the road a lot and don't want to be in the middle of nowhere and get stuck.

Molded plastic tank. For your sake , hopefully it was just that simple.

Thank you for your response. They said they pressure tested the system after they put the new tank on. I am still going to watch it closely though.
