Most automatic transmissions have a shift sock of some sort to not allow the transmission out of park until you put your foot on the brake pedal.Signal from brake switch goes to a control module or solenoid at the shift lever, the plunger in the solenoid releases allowing the transmission to be taken out of park. There is a company that independent auto repair shops get their information from, this same information is available inexpensively for people that work on their own cars.. The information is year make and model specific, covering repair procedures, torque specifications, fluid capacities and specifications, service bulletins, component locations, wiring diagrams ect....
