1995 Chevrolet Camaro Question: My mechanic said my engine spun a bearing.

Question

He is charging me $900 for labor, $850 in parts and $500 to take the more to a machine shop for additional machine work.
This seems like too much money. Just a few months ago, he did the top part of the motor, so now, he is just doing the bottom part of the motor. Please help

The labor rate does not seem high for this amount of work to be done here in California.

the rate sounds about right because if something happens i'm sure you would want him to warranty the work remember you are also paying for his shop tools and years of experience everything seems to high these days but hey what can you do it is outrageous what a mechanic has to pay these days for parts and equipment to be able to not only fix the problem but find the problem

Way to much money. Go to another shop and ask how much it would cost to install a used motor. How many miles do you have on the engine?
