Your 2.4 engine has a timing CHAIN, which should last as long as the rest of the eng. Your mech. was right to suggest that work, if it had a belt. Lot of mechs. think it has a belt, honest mistake, no worries! I own a Camry with that eng., or i might not know either!

agree with answer #1. the 2.4 gas engines for toyota have a timing chain.however if its a diesel,then it would have a belt.
