Question: my explorer will start but then dies

Visitor, 4.0L V6, North Tazewell, VA, June 05, 2011, 18:10

this is the first time that this has happened. the check engine light is on and i have checked all the fuses and changed fuel filter and fuel pump

    When your vehicle starts and dies, you basically need to determine what is missing - spark, fuel or air. Sounds like you have concentrated on fuel so far.

    Only testing will reveal the answer. I recommend checking for trouble codes that may be clues for you.

    Check for any dislodged hoses - vacuum hoses -- under the hood too. Vacuum leaks can cause running issues.

    Did you have the cause of the Check Engine Light illumination investigated and if so what codes were stored? Having the codes retrieved will indicate where the problem most likely lies. A scan tool is required to retrieve the codes stored in the computer of your car.
