1999 Ford F-150 Question: my engine is making a constant whinning sound

My engine is making a constant loud whinning sound the whole time I have it cranked.

    By 'cranked' do you mean while you have the starter engaged? If so, then I'd suspect the starter drive and ring gear on the flywheel. If 'cranked' means when the engine is running, then I'd suspect the alternator, water pump, power steering or any other system driven by the engine.

    thanks I meant the loud whinning sound is constant and when I am driving. It sounds like some kind of large windup toy. Someone mentioned it my be alternator bearings.

    CHECK YOUR CLUTH FAN, ITS PROB FROZEN SO ITS THE FAN YOU HEAR AND YOUR LOSING MAJOR POWER AND GAS
