My car was running okay. One morning it started then turned off. When I tried to start it again, the car would not start. I was told that the fuel pump and the timing chain need to be replaced. Not sure what to do.

get a 2nd opinion as both failed at the same time unlikely. unless fuel pump failed and timing chain is just loose

manual check for fuel pump is to turn key and stop before it turns over. should be able to hear pump priming. short whirring sound. if pump strong should stop within 2 seconds. any longer than pump is weak. did you get diagnostic run on this. diagnostic will tell you what other issues you should be aware of.
