I've seen this exact same situation in my shop 2 different times in the last 3 months on Jeeps with the 4.0 engine. ASD fuse keeps blowing, intermittent stalling, no start condition. Both times the problem was the downstream O2 sensor wires had made contact with the driveshaft, wire insulation wore, thus causing a short, simply because of a broken zip tie that holds the O2 sensor wires up and out of the way. It's a cheap easy fix after I found the problem. Fuel injectors, O2 sensors and Automatic Shutdown were all on the same circuit, which pointed me in that direction. Hope this can help.

From your description, there could be a number of things causing this problem. Can you give me more information? Is the check engine light on? Does it have a miss? What other symptoms are there? It's difficult to diagnose without actually seeing the vehicle.

i have this same problem with my 98 grand cherokee- same engine! except mine blows the muffler every couple months too. do you have any exhaust problems?
have you found anything helpful for this stalling issue since you posted this?
replaced catty and muffler twice bc they were clogged and exploded from pressure. got a new crankshaft position sensor bc other ppl w this jeep engine/random shutting off problem (apparently a mysteriously common problem with this engine) said it worked... it did for two months. but just today i took my jeep down to the shop for another busted exhaust system.
going to try to get a new PCM. mechanic uncle suggested it could be messed up and melting things...
does this happen to you? or are you blessed just to stop randomly without warning?

Check your Oxygen Sensor wires, make sure they are not contacting the drive shaft or have insulation worn off insulation. From your description, it sounds to me like the downstream O2 sensor's having short to ground issues. It's on the same circuit with the ASD and fuel injectors.
