2005 Pontiac Grand Am Question: My car idles too fast

car idles as high as 3000 rpm also idles high when driving. service engine light not on it doesn't do it all the time.

    A faulty throttle position sensor can cause an intermittent high idle. So can a sticking throttle valve or throttle cable issue. Some checks will need to be made when the fault is present in order to determine what the case is.
