Sensor replaced in 2008. Mostly city miles since 2007. Ran out of gas a year ago - fuel gage was acting weird. No pattern to when it stalls. Usually starts right up again. Til last weekend. Had to sit abt 5 min till it started on 4th try. Then last night drove abt 6 miles on freeway. Car turned off while I picked up friend from work. 5 minutes later car would not start. Was parked on slight incline (parking lot at McDs) so coasted back. Started after 5-6 tries and 10 minutes of cursing & praying. Help!! No diagnostic codes showed when tested w handheld code reader.

sounds like a fuel pump. when you ran out of gas, it damaged the pump and sounds like it is showing up now.
get a shop to check it for you and confirm.

thanks. It died again last night, and the mechanic came with his code reader, which did say fuel pump.

Help! I had the fuel pump replaced, but yesterday it stalled a bunch of times after 2 wks running fine. The only thing I can think of is that it got hot/humid again yesterday. I'm going to have the fuel filter and air filter changed today. Anything else you can think of?

there is no code for a failed fuel pump, just a circuit issue. a code never identifies a bad part, just a failed system.
thats why we charge for a real diag.

Hope you aren't having a problem with the main computer. My 1987 Olds would turn off sporadically. Replacing the main computer in 1990 was done under the warranty period, and that cured everything until 2003 when it would quit, usually while at a stop.

The service department at the dealer found the problem when the engine was left running for HOURS at a time until the engine quit. The Ignition Module and one of the Ignition Coils were replaced due to an intermittent open condition. That took about a week to find. The computer was replaced again in 2005 at 212,000 miles.

So now you have two items to check.
