Question: my battery light stsys on and there is a low whining sound as i accelerate..

    Something seezing up around belt- idler pulley? belt tensioner pulley? power steering pump? water pump? alternator? Battery light coming on cuz either alt is sole problem- it's bearings or something else slowing belt down causing alt not to charge effectively. Probably simple problem- I'd also replace belt when problem found cuz you'll probably find it in pretty burnt- that's probably what smell your finding through heater vents.
