Low engine coolant level, leaking or stuck open thermostat, bad cooling fan, bad coolant temperature sensor, bad intake air temperature sensor. Checking the coolant level is somthing you can do which you alreday have. Checking the cooling fan operation is something you can do as well. Run the vehicle and get it up to operating temp and see if the cooling fan comes on. this will take some time so you may want someone to rev the engine at about 2000 - 3000 RPM so it will kick in sooner while you watch it come on. It can be heard but can be difficult if you dont know what your listning for. The thermostate can be checked by placing your hand on the cooling hose at the thermostate and see if you can feel flow of coolant through the hose. This will tell you if the thermoste is open. be careful as the hose will be hot. If everything checks out further diagnosis of the sensors will have to be done.
