It runs lean and very rough for the first few minutes. After the warmup, the emission control air compressor stops, and at the same instant, begins idling good and runs great. It sometimes stalls when it's warm, and won't start at all until it cools back down. It's possibly a wiring harness, but I am reluctant to replace it, until I am sure of that diagnosis.

The air system is putting the air in the wrong place, need to resolve that issue. If the car runs fine with the air pump off, that is a great clue as to what system is malfunctioning. The hot/warm stalling could be several things like a defective ignition module crank sensor etc. I found that the wring was bad on the later ( 1997-> ) MBs, not so much this vintage.
