Question: Mt car got low on water but did not over heat. now it wont run.

Does this car have a low water shut off sensor that would make it not run if the water level got low?

    Sadly no, If your water ran out completely and you continued to run it, chances are you boiled the motor to seize, the gauge would have read normal as the sensor is only reading gases and wasn't immersed in coolant to get an accurate engine temperature reading. Possibly.
    Another possibility is something has fail coincidentally the same time your engine has run out of water
