If you have a Mini Cooper this is the place to take it. From basic things like oil change or major upgrades. I went in for a little sound from my suspension and they not only located the problem but fully inspected the rest of the car and found a major issue with my aftermarket coil overs with could of lead to a major problem while driving if I continued to drive with it. Customer service is great, friendly staff, they are there to help and give their opinion, not there to take your money. Planning on returning to get some more upgrades.
Scott McIntyre is a business owner who loves what he does, and it shows. And what he does is service Minis. Yesterday, in addition to my 2006 Cooper's weird clutch issue (Scott, being the expert that he is, has hypotheses that do NOT involve my driving - BLAME-ASCRIBING DEALERSHIPS THROUGHOUT L.A.: TAKE NOTE), the car decided to put her "service engine soon" light on.
I wanted to visit Scott in rather-far away Thousand Oaks because I found him actively participating on a "Car Talk" forum discussing Mini issues. That's when I knew I had an expert.
Our email correspondence was impressive; Scott is nothing shy of quick to respond, and eloquent. Also he is reassuring. He got the car to do all her little quirky things, and it turns out the service engine light was on because I hadn't put the gas cap on tight enough three days prior. Something about an autodiagnostic computer on a delayed schedule that hadn't caught it yet ... . I LOVE MY OTHER MECHANICS, but sometimes you need/want a super-honed specialist. Scott got the light off, and, as agreed with Drew at Right Solution in Los Angeles that we don't have to worry about the clutch just yet.
Scott and I took the Mini on a long drive through beautiful Thousand Oaks. He can repair the clutch for MUCH (2/3) less than the dealer and much less than Right Solution (just because he has special tools and charges a flat labor fee for dropping the transmission, and also resurfaces the flywheel, which Scott insists is ok, and he's done like 500 of these).
Scott is courteous, talks to you like you're not stupid (assumes the best, not the worst), has an immaculate shop and probably heart. He had me back in love with my car in no time, and I got her detailed.
I was experiencing problems with my tires (purchased elsewhere) and Scott at Motoring Magic not only helped to correctly diagnose the problem, but gave me plenty of options at how best to save money at resolving the issue. With the job completed, I left the shop feeling better about driving my car than I have in a long time. I've had other work done here (oil change, windshield water pump replaced) and was completely satisfied with the experience then as well. Scott and his assistants are extremely personable, listen attentively, and go well beyond just getting the job done; they genuinely seem to care about what they are doing. The shop is immaculate and I find the charges fair and reasonable. If you have a MINI (and are even just slightly obsessive-compulsive), this is -without a doubt- the place to go!
Motoring Magic takes the time to explain what is wrong with your MINI and what service is needed and why. Their prices are reasonable and fair. The owner of the shop (Scott McIntyre) clearly knows and loves MINIs, and his shop is full of MINI paraphernalia! He also takes the time to explain all of the cool features on my MINI. Prior to going to Scott, I used to go to various dealers, and I always felt that I was paying too much and not getting an adequate explanation about what work was needed and why. I don't get that feeling at Motoring Magic. Customer service is excellent - they actually delivered our car to our house after working on it!
