I had a 2001.5 vw passat v6 (atq engine code). The car was wrecked in the rear. The engine was still good. I was told by two local VW dealers that an engine swap from the 2001.5 model would work with the body of a 2000 with a blown motor (that I purchased). We have done the swap (taking the engine from the 2001.5 and putting it into the 2000) and it won't work. We have many issues. From the transmission not shifting to the MPH not working & we can't get past the security system. Any suggestions?
We moved over the engine. Kept the 2000 transmission. We moved over the 2001.5 computer. We used the 2001.5 wiring harness. We've changed the steering column. Nothing is working. Please help.

Check the engine codes and serial numbers. I have been mislead by dealers, especially VW/AUDI so many times that I have lost count. Now I tell them what works, because I have to really figure it out. Engine swaps are not so simple any more because of all the computer systems. You could go to a really good VW/AUDI shop with a VAG ( the VW scanner) and have all the computers reprogrammed, it is not uncommon for what you are trying to do.
