cold morning, i let my truck idle to warm it up for about 15 minutes. while standing next to it the engine just stopped running. no sputtering, just died. the fuel tank had maybe an 1/8 in it. i put 2 more gallons of gas in it still nothing. ive since been told, the pump relies on the fuel to keep it cool. is this true? maybe idling it for 15 minutes with low fuel caused the problem. please help. i am stranded at a hotel far from home

I doubt that you have a fuel pump problem. Yes, the fuel does help cool the pump, but would not be an issue with 1/8 tank and the climate in Ohio in January. The most common cause of intermittent stalling in you truck would be the Camshaft Position Sensor located in the Distributor (Distributor Pickup Plate) . Before going any further, check to make sure you have fuel pressure at the fuel; rail. There should be a Black plastic cap on the drivers side of the fuel rail.(some models do not have this test port) Remove the cap and lightly depress the valve. Fuel should spray out. If there is no fuel, your fuel pump may have failed.
