Front Seat Mounted Air Bags May Not Deploy Correctly
Body, Interior & Misc., September 30, 2009
RepairPal Expert Overview
Our Quick Take:
Air bags are safety devices installed in vehicles to assist in preventing injury during a collision. Some air bags are installed inside the side of the front seats. These air bags help protect occupants during side impacts. Mitsubishi has found that some of these side air bags have not been manufactured properly and may not deploy correctly in a side impact collision.
What Should You Do?
We at RepairPal have designated this a high priority recall; a air bag that will not deploy properly constitutes a safety risk. Please contact your Mitsubishi dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
The retainer bracket used for the side air bag frames may not have been properly welded. This could cause the air bags not to deploy properly in a side collision. Dealers will inspect the weld condition of the side air bag retainer bracket on the front seats and replace the affected seat back assemblies. This recall began on September 30, 2009. The Mitsubishi recall number is SR-09-003.
