Is it really necessary to have the dealer perform the mileage maintenance.

No, any repair shop can do it. You won't lose the warranty as long as you have the records of the services, so better to save all the invoices and get the service record booklet stamped. Also, it is very important to use the CORRECT fluids and it has to be stated on the invoice. If it just saying: 5qts of motor oil , 6 qts of ATF will void the warranty. It has to be like: 5 qts of Mobil1 5W30 full synthetic motor oil, 8 qts of Genuine Toyota Long Life coolant, etc..... Zee
