Question: metal shaveings in my wheal and grinding when I brake

I had to slam on my breaks to avoid hitting someone and now my front left wheel has metal shavings in it and it makes a horrible grinding noise when I break. Is the rotor the issue here? Will replacing them fix the problem? And, what else should I look out for that could have been damaged?

Sounds like the brake pads are either worn out, or possibly the pad material has fractured, causing metal on metal contact.

Do not drive the vehicle further. Have it repaired prior to driving it. Further damage may occur, and safety is in question.

The brake rotor will at the very least need resurfaced. It may have been damaged beyond repair, though, and may need replaced.
