Ford Recalls 1996 Taurus and Mercury Sable Vehicles with Previously Replaced Fuel Tanks
Engine, June 17, 1998
RepairPal Expert Overview
Ford has recalled certain 1996 Taurus and Mercury Sable vehicles that have had a fuel tank replaced as part of Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 97-17-9. An 18-gallon tank was mistakenly installed instead of 16-gallon tank. The tank also has a second valve location where a shipping plug is installed, which could leak and possibly start a fire. Dealers will replace the tank with the correct unit.
