The passenger seat cushion contains a sensing device (occupant classification system, or OCS) to determine if a child safety seat is in use on that seat. The system is designed to turn off the passenger airbag when the system senses a child safety seat in use. These vehicles are being recalled because the system may not correctly classify a very light weight person and incorrectly disable the passenger airbag. This would increase the risk of personal injury in the event of a crash. Dealers will replace the passenger seat cushion, including the OCS to correct this concern.

Seat belts are secured to the vehicle body at various points using special anchor bolts. These 2013 GL models are being recalled because the anchor bolts for the second row seat belts may not have been tightened correctly during vehicle assembly. If these bolts are loose, a belted occupant my not be properly restrained in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of personal injury. Dealers will inspect the affect bolts and tighten them as necessary.

Due to a manufacturing defect, a crack can develop on the fuel filter when the vehicle is operated in high temperatures. This crack can result in a fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire. Dealers will replace the fuel filter to correct this concern.

The bolts securing the secondary hood latch may not have been properly tightened during vehicle assembly on 23 vehicles. The could result in the secondary hood latch becoming ineffective. If the hood were not properly secured by the primary latch and the the secondary latch was not functioning, the hood could open while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will check and retighten the bolts on the secondary latch as necessary to correct this concern.

Certain vehicles were assembled with a right side window curtain airbag that was stitched together improperly. In the event of a crash, this airbag may deflate more quickly than intended, reducing the protection it may provide to vehicle occupants. Mercedes-Benz dealers will replace the right side window curtain air bag on affected vehicles to correct this concern.

These vehicles are equipped with a new type of A/C refrigerant - R1234yf. Testing has determined that escaping R1234yf refrigerant may ignite under specific conditions. A severe frontal crash may rupture one of the air conditioner refrigerant lines, which can result in a gaseous mixture of refrigerant being released into the engine compartment. The resulting fire could spread to additional combustible materials. Dealers will replace the R1234yf refrigerant with R134a (which is the type that had been used previously) along with new refrigerant lines (hoses) designed specifically for R134a.

Mercedes-Benz is recalling certain model year 2011 G550 and G55 (AMG) vehicles manufactured from September 20, 2010, through April 27, 2011. If the front passenger airbag were to deploy, parts of its molding strip could become loose and become a projectile in the passenger compartment. This projectile would increase the risk of personal injury during airbag deployment. Dealers will reinforce the connection between the molding strip and airbag cover flap to correct this concern.
