Mercedes-Benz ML430 Problems

Brake Light Switch Failure May Cause ESP/BAS Warning Lights

The ESP and BAS warning lights may illuminate due to a failed brake light switch. Replacement of the failed switch should correct this concern. A recall on certain 2000-2001 models have been recalled for a related issue - for more information please click here»

The Door Locks May Cycle Rapidly

Electrical switches in the door latches can fail, causing the door locks to rapidly actuate up and down multiple times when the locks are activated by either the keyless remote or door lock switch. The affected door latch should be replaced to correct this concern.

Engine Performance Problems Due to Crankshaft Position Sensor Failure

The crankshaft position sensor may fail causing the engine to stall. In most cases the engine will need to cool down a bit before it will restart but in some cases it may restart right away.

I replaced the crankshaft position sensor and the fuel pump. Still my ML430 will not start. It cranks and it sounds like it is going to start, but dies instead. It has been down for two and a half months. It was in a shop, but they couldn't even remove the faulty crankshaft position sensor so...

Mercedes-Benz ML430 Recalls

Cruise Control May Not Disengage as Expected

It has been determined that, under certain circumstances, use of the brake pedal may not disengage the cruise control as expected. All other means of disengaging the cruise control should remain effective. If the driver were to "pump" the brake pedal instead of applying consistent force, the level of force necessary to disengage the cruise control may be unusually high. Dealers will perform the repairs necessary to correct this concern. The recall is expected to begin September of 2011.

I love my 1999 ML 430 ! You're right about the cost to keep maintenance but I do most of the work myself! I've been performing mechanics on all vehicles purchased as well as serviced elsewhere. It's more fun if know what your'e doing! I'm keeping it as long as I can! Retired Military!
I bought my 199 ML430 4 years ago, with only 53,000. With low mileage, great looks, and 3rd row seats, I felt it was an excellent family car. After owning it for less than a year, I had oil leaks, check engine light turning on,suspension problems, car was not starting and had to have all fuse box changed, after heavy storm, wind shield wipers couldn't work, coolant pump replaced, the list go...
