Mercedes-Benz ML430 Recall 11V208000
Cruise Control May Not Disengage as Expected
Under certain circumstances, the cruise control may not disengage as expected when the brake pedal is depressed. Failure of the cruise control to disengage could increase the risk of a crash.
This could be considered a medium priority recall. We recommend you not use your cruise control until the recall has been performed since the cruise control can remain engaged without warning. Please contact your Mercedes-Benz dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you as to what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
It has been determined that, under certain circumstances, use of the brake pedal may not disengage the cruise control as expected. All other means of disengaging the cruise control should remain effective. If the driver were to "pump" the brake pedal instead of applying consistent force, the level of force necessary to disengage the cruise control may be unusually high. Dealers will perform the repairs necessary to correct this concern. The recall is expected to begin September of 2011.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CRUISE CONTROL
MERCEDES-BENZ IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2000-2002 M-CLASS AND MODEL YEAR 2000-2004 M-CLASS AMG VEHICLES. THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLES ALLOWS THE DRIVER TO DISENGAGE THE SYSTEM IN A NUMBER OF WAYS, INCLUDING TAPPING THE BRAKE PEDAL, USING THE CRUISE CONTROL STALK, OR BRAKING THE VEHICLE ENOUGH TO REACH A CERTAIN RATE OF DECELERATION. MERCEDES-BENZ HAS DETERMINED THAT UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES USE OF THE BRAKE PEDAL MAY NOT AUTOMATICALLY DISENGAGE CRUISE CONTROL AS EXPECTED BY THE DRIVER, ALTHOUGH THE OTHER MEANS OF DEACTIVATING CRUISE CONTROL REMAIN FULLY OPERATIVE. SPECIFICALLY, WHERE THE DRIVER PUMPS THE BRAKES RATHER THAN APPLYING CONSISTENT PEDAL FORCE, THE LEVEL OF FORCE REQUIRED MAY BE UNUSUALLY HIGH.
DIFFICULTY OR DELAY IN DISENGAGING CRUISE CONTROL CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.
DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING SEPTEMBER 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MERCEDES-BENZ AT 1-800-367-6372.
