The Trunk Lid May Not Stay Open

Body, Interior & Misc., August 17, 2004

RepairPal Expert Overview

Our Quick Take:

The trunk lid springs may fail. As a result, the trunk lid will not remain in the open position and could cause injury if it comes down unexpectedly.

What Should You Do?

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning August 17, 2004. If your trunk lid will not stay up, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It's helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) when you call.

Summary:

The trunk lid springs could fail in the closed position. If the trunk lid is manually lifted, it may not remain in the open position and could cause injury if it comes down unexpectedly. Dealers will replace both trunk lid springs to correct this concern. The Mercedes-Benz recall number is 2004 050015.
