gatosverdes (see below) has it right: "Wrong diagnosis led to very costly repairs which did not fix initial problem. When car was returned, another set of (expensive) repairs was recommended." This happened to me, too, except it was with the center-console Cylinder vs. the Starter.
The other problem was they recommended I repair things that they had all ready recently repaired. This was done with the Timing-belt, and then, with the Starter.
The next-door business, Little D's Muffler & Brake, is one of their trading partners.
And, gatosverdes is also right about how much better it was in the past. The old owner created a lot of trust. The new owner tried for about the first year and then began to get greedy.
I have a new mechanic I found off the of AAA Nor Cal website.

“Awesome, as always”
These guys never let me down. I didn't have an appointment but took a chance and left my car there the night before so it could be seen first thing in the morning without me having to get up early, since it was dripping fluid and I wouldn't have someone to take me in the morning. They were able to take it, even on a busy Monday, had called me by 10 am and it was fixed by 2 pm. They are always courteous, knowledgeable, take time to explain the problems and answer questions. Have used shuttle service there --t hey have taken me home. I get the feeling you could find cheaper places but I trust these folks, so that is worth some money to me.Flag ThisLike0 -

I have been convinced by my friends that this story is worth telling. I've live in the bay area all my life and I've never done a review on any business until now. I think this was a special case and it deserves one. So here I go. I am writing this review not because things went right but because things went wrong and what MADE in Japan did about it. We were referred to Made In Japan by one of our good friends. We gave them a call and they made a very good impression on the phone and we decided to have them work on our car. We had our car serviced by them before our family trip to Tahoe. We had told them that we'll be taking our kids and couple of relatives with us and wanted to make sure our car was okay. Car was done on time and it was detailed for us too (great gesture). Middle of the way to Tahoe our water level indicator came on. We didn't think much of it, we stopped at a gas station and filled it up. Near Tahoe it came on again and the car was starting to overheat. We added water again and went to a local repair shop. The local shop inspected the car and told us that our water pump was leaking water and had to be replaced. This was part of the service that we had done. Well, you can imagine I was angry and furious with them. I called them on the phone and spoke to their service department (this was not a nice conversation.....sorry about that). The person who took the call promised to call me back with a resolution. Within a few minutes I got a call from their service manager who was very professional and polite and said they will do what they can to take care of us. He too promised a call back. Well, in about half an hour later I got a call from the owner who also did an excellent job calming me down. He had already talked to the shop where the car was and new about the situation. He told me that "this was no longer my problem and they will take care of it." Here is what happened after this. The owner had arranged for a rental car and they came to the shop to pick us up. They arranged for the shop to replace the water pump again and Made In Japan covered all the cost. Car was done the following day and we picked up our car and the issue was resolved. Looking at the experience couple of weeks later, overall we lost about an hour of our vacation time (really not a big deal) but somehow it was not stressful. We had a rental car, we did not miss anything on our vacation and the car was taken care of. After this incident, Made In Japan had arranged for an inspection of our car to okay all the work that was done. I also got a call from the vendor who Made In Japan had purchased the water pump from and they too apologized for the part failure. I know at the end of the day they could have blamed the part and given me a lot of headache but they didn't. Made In japan toke care of me and my family. I have told this story to a lot of my friends and certainly hope that they give Made In japan a try. You know, once in a while you get a bad part…it happens. Thanks to my friends for making me write this review. We all felt like we need to support companies that take responsibility and take care of their customers. With that said, to all the people at Made In Japan, I hope you get a chance to read this review and I am REALLLLLYYYYYY sorry for being so rude to you guys on the phone. Regardless of my approach, you took care of me and my family and our car. Our vacation was not ruined and we had a great time. You will definitely see all of our cars for any and all future services. You did an excellent job and I hop you don't change your ways.

I have been bringing all our cars to Made in Japan - Campbell for a long time (since the 90's) and have always been happy with their service. Shop is clean and staff are friendly. Even with the change of ownership, I have not seen quality of service go down. In fact, it has become better! I highly recommend them to anybody who is looking for an honest and trustworthy shop!

I have a 2002 Saturn. I was referred to Made In Japan Campbell by a Friend.I would just like to say it is hard to come by a Staff that is as knowledgeable and Friendly as the staff at Made In Japan.I had a electrical issue with my car that the dealer could not find. Hundreds of dollars spent and no repair. Made In Japan Campbell took the time and found a short in my wiring harness. It ended up being a very minor repair. Thank you again to the Staff at Made In Japan Campbell.I would recommend them to anyone who would like good honest service.

Wrong diagnosis led to very costly repairs which did not fix initial problem. When car was returned, another set of (expensive) repairs was recommended. I brought the car to a different mechanic who changed a fuel sensor which fixed the problems for a fraction of the price. The ownership did not address the disparity when I confronted them. I had been a customer for many years, but that was the end of the line.
