I felt that the price was reasonable, they explained what was wrong, and I didn't get the feeling that they were trying to scam me or anything like that. I like that they have a shuttle which lets me get my car serviced while my husband is at work. We used to go to a local place in town, and the price that Mac's has been quoting me has been less than the place we used to go to.
The first time that I went there I told them that I may not be able to pick up the car until the next day. I was able to pick the car up but when I went there was someone in the shop but would not look up and let me in. It was very obvious that I was there. That is such poor customer service. I had to go back the next day. We were given a car and I took it there to have it checked out. They said a gasket needed to be replaced that would cost a lot of money. I took it somewhere else and they said it did not need to be done. I felt I was not being told the truth by the first mechanic. I felt very disappointed and I would never recommend them to anyone.
I drove almost 30 minutes from Charlottesville to Mac's because RepairPal guaranteed their prices would be cheaper. Not so much. I should have read the other reviews about them being expensive. In fact, they were more expensive than the RepairPal estimate. I took my Rav4 in to have a front ignition coil replaced after I received a P0352 engine code light. I also had the front three spark plugs replaced while I was there. The repair they accomplished involves taking off the engine cover (just pulls off) and then removing one bolt for each front ignition coil. Then just unscrew each spark plug, screw in the new one, and swap out the bad ignition coal (which just unclips). They charged me $166 for the parts, which I could have purchased online for about $115. For labor they charged me $121, for what likely took 30 mins tops to complete. I was there at the shop for a total of 2 hrs. It took them 15 mins to get my car back, another 15 before they diagnosed it, then another hour and a half before I was driving off. Somewhere in that time they also had to go get the part because they didn't have it on hand. What's the moral of the story? RepairPal won't save you from expensive auto repair costs. If you can do it yourself, do it. With the overhead a lot of these shops have, you are going to get charged $100 bucks for just walking in the door. Other than that, the folks there were nice and got me in very quick. The service manager did mention it might be good idea to go ahead and get all the coils and spark plugs replaced at a cost nearing $1k. But he mentioned its all in what I'm willing to pay. You can say that again.
