Carolyn Coquillette, the owner of Luscious Garage, is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. From the minute you walk into the shop, you will see why Luscious scored so well in our assessment. Located in San Francisco, the shop and its technicians are fun, quirky, and friendly, as is the space itself, which has a loft-like feel to it, complete with plants, high ceilings, and lots of sunlight. We verified that three of the five technicians are ASE certified with a combined 70 years of experience between them. Overall it was a good experience. A couple minor things gave me some pause for thought though. On the paperwork it listed several fluids were topped off when in fact the levels were identical to how they were before I brought the car in. We noticed because we checked the cabin air filter in the morning before I brought the car in because I wanted to see how clean it was and we looked at the fluid levels at the same time. Not a major issue but it bothered me that it said something was done when it wasn't.
Luscious Garage is a great shop, very honest, wonderfully environmentally conscious, and they really know hybrids. Also, the shop is comparatively nice-smelling with plants and a nice waiting room. Caroline and her team go out of their way to communicate clearly and help you out when you're having car problems. Above & beyond service and attention to detail. It's a bit more expensive, but I think it's just more expensive for hybrid repair anyway because all the components are more complicated.
There prices are consistently lower than online research of dealerships. The caliber of repairperson is very high. and they stand behind their work as a repair shop should. they don't do just hybrids--the do an amazing job with all cars. and i love their convenience of dropping off, hours, paperless, etc.
The owner and staff were friendly, fun and professional. They were extremely knowledgable about hybrids and their unique 'issues'. The shop was incredibly clean and welcoming while still being a professional garage. They serviced my car quickly. When they had a sudden influx of customers they maintained their friendly professionalism even when one customer came in panicky because her Nissan leaf ran out of power and she had never had to charge it at a charging station before. Their pricing was extremely fair. I loved that the entire transaction was paperless and I was just emailed the receipts instead. I could not find anything wrong with this business. :-)
Staff is friendly and occasionally funny. The mechanic who has worked on my car there is very conscientious. They replace broken taillight bulbs free. Slightly more expensive than the dealer but without the attitude problem. They tend to inflate tires too high for comfort, which is an issue in the city.
I used to go to the dealer for my Prius's oil change and tire rotations. I finally decided to switch to Luscious Garage because of the mark-up I was paying at the dealer. I thought LG would be much cheaper.. but it only turned out to be slightly cheaper. All in all, great work good people, and I no longer have a need to stick with the dealer.
After one visit, I'm a loyal fan. They are down to earth, providing a service they believe in and we need, and very reasonably priced. They sell you as little as you need, not as much as they can convince you to need. You can do just everything on line except deliver and pick up the car, and they use the phone for people who prefer that. They are really likeable people. I hope they are in business for the rest of my driving life (which they should be, I'm at the mature driver stage of life).
I took my Saturn to this garage based on the reviews from this site and I was not disappointed! My car was making grinding noises (never a good sign) when I stopped. I took it in as a 'drop in' I was quoted a fair price and a fair price when they found the problem, I needed new brakes n' tires. Unfortunately, I was in a car accident the next day =( Eventhough I was a new customer they were kind enough to allow me to keep my car there and even recommened a repair shop! They were very kind to me in my time of need and have earned a customer/recommendations for life from me! Don't let the wacky name scare you off! This is a great and honest garage! =)
After the maintenance contract expired on my 2005 Prius, and I was no longer bound to the dealership for service, the first thing I did was call LG. My experience with the dealership was so bad I was excited for something new. LG was everything I hoped for in a repair shop. Friendly, personal service. You speak directly with the person working on your car and they take the time to explain every little detail so you feel secure in the work they are doing. Having owned cars for almost 20 years I have never had such a great experience. Thank you LG!
I have always been impressed with their customer service and complete honesty (rare for a repair shop in my experience) and here is an example. I don't live in SF so I don't always have a chance to take my car to LG. A few months ago I did an oil change at another shop (where I've been going to for years, so they know me well) and they told me that I had to replace the struts urgently and gave me an estimate. I called LG asking if they could do it for less and took the car. I was waiting for the work to be done when I received a call from Carolyn saying that I didn't need any work at all, the struts were just fine. And didn't charge me a cent. I know a few places that would have not been so honest and I am very grateful LG is there. I have a license plate frame advertising their name and I am very happy to do so!
Carolyn and her staff are top rate!!! I have a Honda GX (the natural gas vehicle - runs on CNG). The prices are beyond fair and the work gets done proficiently and timely. Yeah!! I have found my garage for life! I had used Luscious Garage for the first time when my 1 month old car was rear-ended. They directed me to a repair shop that I will also use indefinitely. There are not enough stars for this garage. Thanks again Carolyn.
If you drive a Prius, you know it's not an ordinary car. Well, LG is not an ordinary garage. They are well-informed, trustworthy, very green, woman friendly, (probably too clean), and they are always looking for ways to be helpful. Also, check out Carolyn's blog - always a good read. Of course they service other hybrids (and selected non-hybrids) as well.
The shop is clean, comfortable waiting area (but close to lots of good things to do), fantastic service, good work. The mechanic who worked on our car was very polite, patient in listening to our problems, clear in his explanations, and did a great job. They also provide, via website and e-mail as well as in person, lots of clear, valuable information about car problems and car care. Who ever dreamed of a garage that is a pleasure to visit? I can hardly wait for time for our next check-up so I can get back to Luscious Garage.
If you have a Prius and don't LOVE your repair shop - you haven't been to the Luscious Garage nor met Carolyn. This is the way it is supposed to be and hardly ever is. Try LG once - you'll be a customer for life. Courteous, friendly, knowledgeable (unbelievably), professional, fair, reasonable and just plain nice... and clean as a whistle.
