I have a strange sucking noise coming from the area of the fuel injectors, and a loss of engine power. What may have caused this, and what can I do to fix it.

A sucking sound with the engine running is a sign of a vacuum leak. A vacuum leak will certainly make the engine run poorly. Is the a vacuum hose of or perhaps the intake manifold gasket is leaking.
To find an intake manifold leak, with the engine running use an oil can and carefully place a little oil along the joint between the intake manifold and cylinder head. If the engine suddenly smooths out or you see the oil being instantly sucked into the engine, you have found the source of your problem.
