Car will not start but has power and lights. So we turned on the brights and tried to turn it on and the lights went dim so we took the starter out. Is it bad and is there a way to check looking at it.

Its best to check it in the car. Now that you have it out most parts stores will check the operation of the starter for FREE. They do this to make the company money. I see theres 2 autozones in idaho falls. Autozone is one of the companies that offers this service.
