Am told the link bar is either loose or worn out is this the same? Does it need to be replaced or tightened?

    you need to find out if it is loose or broken. if it is loose then there are links that have to be replaced. if it is broken then it has to be replaced.
    it is crutial to the steering stability and needs to be repaired either way.

    The links are very common for replacement in these cars, typically more for noise issues.
