My PT Cruiser is 10 1/2 years old, but has under 49,000 miles on it. It is mostly city driving (San Francisco; lots of hills). I have recently noticed a squeaking noise that is usually only noticeable when there are passengers in the car. Any idea of likely cause? New shocks or bushings needed?

Don't be suprised if it ends up needing more than just one particular item and also a certain amount of 'process of elimination'. 10&1/2 years is a long time for no suspension work (pretty good to), some items that are worn , although marginally , may not show up 'til after any other parts that are in worse condition are replaced first.

My PT Cruiser squeeks after it rains which indicates the spacers on the leaf springs are dry. I just squirt some brake fluid on them and they quiet down.
