Lighting in transmission indicator on 2000 Honda Accord

What causes the light in transmission indicator on the console to go out? How can it be corrected?

It is a bulb that goes out, but the center console top must be removed to access it.

Transmission "D" light has started blinking. Use to blink a little long time ago but now blinks constantly. Car and transmission workd normally. Fluid level is normal.
