When deployed due to a crash, the passenger side air bag can deploy abnormally, or with excessive force. The inflator may come apart, causing debris and fragments to strike and injure occupants. The dealership will replace the passenger air bag assembly free of charge to resolve the concern.
This limited regional recall is for vehicles currently registered or first sold in southern Florida, along the Gulf Coast, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Saipan and American Samoa. Upon deployment the passenger airbag inflator could rupture, increasing the risk of personal injury. Dealers will replace the passenger side air bag inflator to correct this concern. If a replacement inflator is not available, as an interim measure, the dealer will disable the front passenger air bag and advise the customer not to use the front passenger seat until a replacement inflator is installed.
Due to the remnants of anti-corrosion plating, a fuel leak may develop from where the fuel pressure sensor is attached to the fuel delivery pipe. Any fuel leak always increases the risk of a fire. Dealers will clean and reseal the area of the fuel pressure sensor to correct this concern.

When deployed, excessive pressure can build in the passenger front airbag. This could cause the inflator to rupture, increasing the risk of personal injury to vehicle occupants. This recall affects both originally installed passenger front airbags as well as those that were installed as replacement service parts. Toyota and General Motors will replace the passenger front airbag inflator on their respective vehicles involved in this recall.
The brake system contains an actuator that adjusts the fluid pressure to the brake at each wheel. An electrical component inside the actuator may experience an increased electrical resistance resulting in the illumination of various warning lights, including those for the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system, Antilock Brake System (ABS), and Traction Control system. As a result, these systems may not function as expected, reducing directional control assistance and increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will update the software for the Skid Control module to correct this concern.
Many modern engines use a computer controlled mechanical system known as Variable-Valve Timing (VVT) to adjust engine valve timing based on operating conditions. Vehicles equipped with a V-6 engine and VVT are being recalled because bolts securing components of the VVT system could become loose due to normal impacts generated immediately after starting the engine when cold. The loose bolts could cause the VVT gear housing and sprocket to separate. This would cause the engine to stop while the vehicle is being driven, increasing the risk of a crash. Lexus dealers will replace the VVT unit on affected engines to correct this concern.
Two of the main control modules for the hybrid drive system are the Inverter Module and the Intelligent Power Module (IPM), which is located inside the Invertor Module. The IPM can operate at temperatures high enough to damage its electrical solder connections. Damaged solder joints can result in illumination of warning lights, various drivability concerns, and possible stalling of the hybrid drive system. Dealers will replace the IPM on affected vehicles to correct this concern.
If the nuts for adjusting the rear wheel alignment are improperly tightened during service, the rear tire rod may develop unwanted movement and rust, leading to thread damage and eventual failure. Failure of the rear tie rod could cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the tie rods and replace any that have rust or corrosion on the alignment adjustment threads. All rear tie rods will then be encased in an epoxy to prevent future environmental damage.
The brake booster pump contains a compartment filled with nitrogen gas. This nitrogen gas can leak into the brake fluid causing reduced hydraulic pressure during application of the brakes. Reduced braking efficiency can increase the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the brake booster pump assembly as necessary to correct this concern.
