1998 GMC 1500 Pickup Question: length of time for repair?

IRB13007, 5.7L V8, Birmingham, AL, January 15, 2011, 19:03

is the cost of the repair extremely high? I know it is time consuming to remove the motor and rebuild it since the motor doesn't have any compression in it. how long should it take for the repair for the V-8 5.7 liter engine?

The cost of the repair is high. The engine is a significant part of the cost of the vehicle. Instead of rebuilding, consider buying a rebuilt long or short block (depending on your mechanics advice and the condition of the cylinder heads).
Also consider getting a guaranteed used motor. I'd choose the guaranteed used motor if cost is a big factor. I sure wouldn't rebuild it, a technician cabable of doing it right comes at a much higher price than a guy who could install an assembled motor.
