leaking struts on 2006 Chevrolet HHR

I just left the Chev. dealers and they informed me that the struts on my 2006 HHR were leaking. What should it cost to replace them. If this is a common problem with this car, why hasn't there been a recall? I have 49,000 miles on it.

My right fron strut (2006 HHR LT)leaked at 43,000. I got GM to pay $200 toward the repair. Local dealer wouldn't pay but GM stepped up. Yeah GM.

My left front strut leaked at 27,000 miles. The platinum extended warranty I purchased covered all other suspension items except the strut. I call GM - after about a month of "investigating" they agreed to pay for the part ($195) and I have to pay the labor and alignment costs ($331). Not happy to have to pay for a repair on a car I've only owned a few months but glad GM agreed to help out a little bit. It also needed new control arms, bushings, strut mount and remote starter. The rear suspension also has issues at such a low mileage - I definitely will not be buying another GM vehicle EVER!

It almost sounds like something metal is loose underneath and constantly hitting the ground with a clunk clunk clunk. Nothing is loose/dragging underneath though. It's been a long time and the car...
