Question: Leaking and overheated

Question

About 5 months ago I turned the heat on and the car made a loud screeching noise especially when I pressed on the gas. I just took the knobs off and never used the heat (side note: I don't use the A/C either, a friend bypassed that by using a smaller belt after that ac compressor stopped working and ripped up the belt). Later my car started spurting water/coolant out from the passenger side. That stopped so I continued to drive it for the next 4 months. Yesterday, on the freeway I noticed a noise and had to pull over immiediately because I was on H. I had a liter of water, put that in and went to the next off ramp gas station. I filled it up with water and took her home (I did notice dirty colored water coming up too). Later the car stopped working while going up a hill after getting off the freeway (about 3 miles). I could only go 30 MPH. I parked and I was smoking. I refilled again and I saw the water coming out underneath at the center not the passenger side. Can this be fixed? Can It be bypassed or fixed at home? Also about 3 weeks ago I parked and It was stuck in park. Now I turn the key to clicks and put it into neutral to start the car. What could be the reason for this?

You have probably a few separate issues. A pressure test of the cooling system is definitely needed to find out what is happening there. This cooling system when new had a coolant flow issue, causing excessive corrosion build up and many leaks and sludge throughout the cooling system. This was originally repaired by adding a bypass hose (back in 1998 - Program 98B23...long since expired...) However, many cooling systems had damage already done or already in progress. This may or may not have influenced your issues.

The turning key - clicking - not sure if you have a transmission range sensor issue or a battery / cabling issue.

Can you say why water is pouring out from underneath? I put water in the resovior and it immediately is coming out about at the center by a metal pan (a little off center towards the drivers side). Someone told me to put stop leak in it but that doesn't sound like a good idea. I followed the hoses but can't see exactly where it is coming out of.
