I took my daughter's car in for an inspection and it failed with a P0171 code. I let the mechanic know my teenage daughter had put diesel in it accidently in July and asked if it could be related. He called me back and said it needed two oxygen sensors and also charged me for a fuel rail cleaning without mentioning this charge. I drove the car 75 miles to "reset" the computer and the lights came on again. The same code came up after $829 worth of charges. After researching online and talking to other mechanics, I found that oxygen sensor failure is rare anymore and that replacing them for this code is often a misdiagnosis. When I talked to the manager he took the car back in and did some minor steps --within 6 hours he called me that it was fixed and inspection passed - no further charge. However, he never gave me a satisfactory answer regarding the "mistake" his mechanic made. I paid for his employees mistake, not him. I will never go back!!

I brought in my wife's car for a routine oil change. The technician suggested I go with full synthetic oil - that it would improve my gas mileage on the SUV (v8). So I said ok. When I settled up the bill was over $100! No way would I have said ok had I known the price - my fault for not asking. Next time the car was due for an oil change my wife took it in... Unfortunately to the same place. Technician told her that because we used synthetic oil last time we have to use synthetic all the time now. That may have been the case when synthetic oil was in its infancy, but that is certainly not the case nowadays. I recommend finding a different shop for auto service - we certainly have.
