Question: knock sensor

Hi,
My check engine light came on and was told by the car dealer that the code indicated the knock sensor was faulty.
The service adviser said cost for the repair is $913.00, I declined the repair for now cause I think the repair cost is too high. The check engine light is off now but he said the light will come back on again.
So my questions are:
1) Is the repair cost reasonable and would the check engine light really come on again?
2) Is there any harm to the engine if I don't replace the knock sensor?
3) How much does is cost to replace the knock sensor by an independent shop?

MasterThe 1994 850 had some issues with the knock sensors, and when the codes appear, there is an updated knock sensor wiring harness and knock sensors that needs to installed. The intake manifold needs to be removed to install this kit.

I would find a good Volvo independent and have them perform this job, just make sure this goes to a good, qualified Volvo tech, or the fix will not last and the light will come back on. In fact, I'd be surprised if this kit wasn't already installed.
You can drive it like this and it won't hurt anything, however when you go for your smog inspection it will fail.

Visitor, September 13, 2010, 11:11Reply$900 seems a little high to me and second I'd check if they had a recall if they have problems. Mine check engine just came on too with the knock sensor code I've been driving it for a week.
